October: The 2011 season is drawing to a close, we are not rowing in the evenings - it is too dark! We will still row on Saturday mornings if the weather is good. The Annual General Meeting was held 7:30pm Weds, May 4th at the McIntosh Inn, Morrisburg. We rowed in the Head of the Trent regatta at Trent University, Peterborough Saturday, October 3, 2010. We entered boats in the men's coxed four and the women's double races for the Ottawa Rowing Club's Head of the Rideau regatta, held at the Ottawa Canoe, Hog's Back, Sunday September 26, 2010. September bring shorter days and the training program for the the Fall regattas. Recreational rowing will start at 6pm week nights. The month of July brings our youth training program. 12 young rowers from local junior/high schools come out twice a week during the month. Some new, some returning rowers. Thanks to all the volunteers who came out to assist with boat launching and handling: coxes, boat drivers and coaches! Thanks to the Trillium Foundation for help in purchasing a much needed training single rowing scull and other equipment. We need leave no-one behind on the dock again! Recreational rowing Tuesday and Thursdays at 6:30 pm, Saturday 9 am. Other times by arrangement. A successful 6 week Learn-to-Row program for 2010, introduce 11 new rowers to our club. Welcome! Recreational rowers are invited to come out to the marina and row this Wednesday May 19 at 6pm. The 2010 season will be officially underway on May 25th. LTR starts and Rec rowing also begins. Rec rowing will be on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6:30 and Saturday morning at 9:00. On May 25th and May 27th we will meet at 6:00. A generous grant from the Trillium Foundation was announced at the Morrisburg club registration. In front of members of the press and public, our MPP and mayor, the Trillium representative presented a cheque to the club executive group. Our deepest thanks to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for making our club's activities much easier! 2010 registration: May 1, 11 am - 1pm at the Morrisburg mall, by the clock tower. We have a big announcement at 12:30, so come along! We started rigging boats Saturday 24 April at the marina. Many, many thanks to all who participated - we have the 8, two coxed fours and a double ready to row! First boat in the water for 2010: Gatineau double. April 17, 2010: The boats have been moved from winter storage and the dock has been launched and anchored. Many thanks to the volunteers who came to help! It was a cold, wet morning but we are nearly ready to row! April 12, 2010: Annual General Meeting. Monday at 7:00 pm at the McIntosh Country Inn and Conference Centre. Come and register for rowing for the early bird special of $165 (reg. $180). If a regular rower brings a learn-to-row registrant we will reserve a LTR place (we will have limited LTR opportunities this year). Oct 3: Head of the Trent regatta at Peterborough. This is becoming an SLRC tradition - although we only row recreationally we feel part of this classic athletic event with hundreds of participating boats! In the recreational mixed eight: Celena, Andy, Katherine, Lorraine, Sue, Art, Alan and Tony. In the women's coxed four: Andrea, Karen, Jocelyn and Nancy. For both races our cox was the club president, Trisha, who proved to be our secret weapon! Our 2009 results were much improved from last year's times. Video of mixed eight. Video of women's four. The SLRC Recreational men's coxed four (average age 52) rowed at the Head of the Rideau Regatta 2009, hosted by the Ottawa Rowing club at the Ottawa Canoe club. Video. Results. Congratulations to Alan, Andy, Art, Tony and their coxie, Nancy! Our first venture to this nearby event required volunteer time in getting the cow boat to the venue. Thanks to all and a creditable result! June-July-August peak recreational rowing season. We decided to train 3 teams for the Fall regattas. Men's coxed four, women's coxed four and mixed eight. June 8: The new dock is finally complete! This was a tremendous volunteer effort, especially by Andy Lee and Nancy Jordan. Tim Hendriks has made a ramp so that we can safely carry boats from the land to the dock. We can't thank you all enough! Older news: May 18, All boats rigged and ready to row! First on-the-water learn-to-row session in the eight! May 14,2009 - Brockville rowing club delivered 3 new boats to us as a donation!
